How to Use Byte Converter

Enter a data size in any unit — bits, bytes, KB, MB, GB, TB, or PB. The tool instantly converts between all storage units using both binary (1024-based: KiB, MiB, GiB) and decimal (1000-based: KB, MB, GB) standards side by side. Perfect for comparing storage capacities and network data transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bytes in a gigabyte?+
In decimal: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes (10^9). In binary: 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes (2^30). Storage manufacturers use decimal; operating systems often use binary — which is why reported sizes don't match.
What is the difference between bits and bytes?+
1 byte = 8 bits. Internet speeds are typically measured in bits per second (Mbps), while file sizes are measured in bytes (MB). A 100 Mbps connection downloads at ~12.5 megaBYTES per second (100 ÷ 8).
